Tobias Kahler

Tobias Kahler (born October 31, 1974 in Herdecke ) is a German activist and lobbyist . He is head of the development lobby and campaign organization ONE in Australia. Before that he was director of ONE in Germany. ONE emerged in 2009 from the organization DATA (Debt, Aids, Trade, Africa). As country director in Germany, he was part of the European management team of the international organization ONE. Kahler won the 2013 Political Award in the category of social institutions with the ONE campaign “I'm looking!” For the federal election .

biography

Tobias Kahler studied politics , international relations and economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill , the Free University of Berlin and the London School of Economics . Among other things, he worked in 1999 at the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt , from 1999 to 2001 at the American Jewish Committee and in 2002 at the Berlin Political Agency in the areas of campaign and event management and public affairs . In 2002 he became the founding editor of the specialist magazine politik & kommunikation . In 2004 he became managing director of Politikverlag GmbH (later Helios Media, now Quadriga Media).

In 2007, Kahler founded the German office of the organization DATA, later ONE, and was head of the organization in Germany until July 15, 2016. The main goal of his work was that Germany keep the promise to spend 0.7 percent of gross national income on development cooperation. In Germany he worked with this organization, among other things, to achieve the UN sustainability goals and to promote the least developed countries . In addition to calling for more effective and more development aid, Kahler advocates more transparency and programs against hunger, extreme poverty and preventable diseases.

Kahler heads the Berlin office of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in Germany and maintains contacts with the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and other ministries, the Chancellery and the Bundestag.
