Tobias Rathgeb (born May 3, 1982 in Ostfildern - Ruit ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach .
Career as a player
Rathgeb came to the youth department of VfB Stuttgart via TV Nellingen and VfL Kirchheim, and in 2001 he was accepted into the amateur team. In 2004, Rathgeb got a professional contract and after only one month as a VfB professional was loaned to FC St. Gallen in Switzerland as part of a cooperation between the clubs . At St. Gallen, Rathgeb became a regular player on the left defender position, although he actually plays more in the left attacking midfield.
At the beginning of the 2005/06 season, Rathgeb moved back to VfB Stuttgart, but only made 19 appearances for the second team of the Stuttgart in the Regionalliga Süd . During the winter break of the same season, he therefore moved to Hansa Rostock in the 2nd Bundesliga , where he initially signed a contract dated June 30, 2008, which he extended in February 2008 for another two years. At that time, Rathgeb had achieved promotion to the Bundesliga with Rostock , so that he was able to score his first goal in this division on September 29, 2007 - against his former club VfB Stuttgart of all places. After Rostock was immediately relegated in the summer of 2008, Rathgeb only completed seven more second division games for the Hanseatic League before he was out for almost a year due to injuries. In the summer of 2009, a change of club was suggested to him, which means he was no longer part of the FC Hansa squad despite his contract.
After dissolving his contract in Rostock, Rathgeb returned to the second team of VfB Stuttgart on January 7, 2010 . Since then he has been the captain of the second team. At the end of the 2016/17 season, Rathgeb ended his professional football career.
Career as a coach
In the 2017/18 season , Rathgeb was Heiko Gerber's assistant coach at VfB Stuttgart's A-youth team (U19) . For the 2018/19 season he became Murat Isik's assistant coach at the B-youth team (U17). On April 21, 2019 he was assistant coach of the interim coach Nico Willig in the Bundesliga team until the end of the season . After relegation, Tim Walter took over the team and Rathgeb was no longer part of the coaching staff. For the 2019/20 season, he became Francisco Vaz's assistant coach for the second team.
