Heiko Gerber (born July 11, 1972 in Stollberg / Erzgeb. ) Is a former German soccer player and today's coach , who was preferred on the left defense side, but was also placed in the left midfield.

Athletic career

Club career

Gerber came to VfB Stuttgart in 1999 via the stations in Chemnitz , Bielefeld and Nuremberg . In 2006/07 Gerber won the German championship with VfB - without being able to record a game this year. It was the first title win in his professional career. In the final of the DFB Cup 2006/07 , the Stuttgart, who did not call Gerber, gambled away the chance to crown the season with a double .

After he didn't get a regular place at VfB, Gerber decided to continue his career after the summer break in 2007 for 2 years at FC Ingolstadt 04 . There he rose in 2008 as a leading player on the last match day of the Regionalliga Süd in the 2nd Bundesliga . After FC Ingolstadt was relegated to the 3rd division, Gerber moved to the regional division SSV Ulm 1846 in July 2009 . He announced the end of his career for the summer of 2010 in order to subsequently work as a junior coach at VfB Stuttgart.

In total, Gerber played 199 Bundesliga games and scored eleven goals.

Selection bets

He was part of the DFB squad for the 1999 edition of the Confederations Cup . During the tournament in Mexico, he recorded his only two appearances in the German national team .

Ten years earlier he had worn the GDR jersey as a teenager and was ranked 9th there with the second representation of the East German juniors in the youth competitions of friendship in the early summer .

Coaching career

Gerber completed his soccer teacher training at the Hennes-Weisweiler-Akademie in Hennef and received the UEFA Pro license on March 20, 2017 . At his former club, VfB Stuttgart, he held several coaching positions in the youth field. He has been the assistant coach of the VfB U21 team since summer 2020.
