Tobias Svantesson (born April 1, 1963 in Malmö ) is a former Swedish tennis player .

Career

Svantesson began playing tennis at the age of seven. He studied in the United States and played for Florida State University , Oklahoma State University and Flagler College . 1985 and 1986 he was double champion of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics , 1986 also champion in singles. The following year he became a professional tennis player. In 1988 he reached the semi-finals of Forest Hills with Mikael Pernfors and the semi-finals of Livingston with Libor Pimek . His greatest success on the ATP World Tour that year was reaching the quarter-finals in Scottsdale , in which he lost straight to Mikael Pernfors in straight sets. In 1989 he won double titles in Nancy and Charleston . In the 1990s he mainly played on the ATP Challenger Tour , on which he was able to secure five double titles between 1990 and 1993. He reached his highest scores in the world rankings in 1988 with position 89 in singles and in 1991 with position 65 in doubles.

His best performance in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the second round of the French Open and the US Open in 1988. In the doubles competition, he reached the round of 16 in 1989 at the Australian Open and 1992 at the French Open . In addition, he appeared at the Australian Open, the French Open and Wimbledon in mixed ; however, he never got past the first round.
