Death Diet - The Price of Beauty is a 1996 American television film that primarily addresses the topics of anorexia and bulimia .

action

The two girls Lexi and Jenny become best friends within a short time. Lexi had to move with her mother and sister because of the divorce of her parents and is therefore very sad. She meets Jenny during a volleyball game . Jenny, who already lives in Lexi's new town, is already suffering from bulimia. Slowly Lexi starts to show signs of anorexia and more and more grotesque habits are shown. As the story progresses, Lexi gets thinner and thinner, while Jenny holds up relatively well. Then suddenly Lexi faints during a volleyball game and comes to a clinic. When she fails to train for appetite , her father, who traveled from Chicago, agrees to be force-fed . However, her mother does not agree.

When Lexi is successfully released from the clinic, she tells her mother about Jenny's bulimia, whereupon Lexi's mother tells Jenny's parents against Lexi's will. However, they believe nothing. From now on, Jenny is no longer Lexi's girlfriend. She constantly avoids Lexi and tells her that she hates her. This situation is very difficult for the lonely Lexi.

At a beach party, the drunk Jenny is finally run over by a car. The highly affected Lexi relapses her anorexia and loses weight again extremely quickly. When her father finds out, he wants to have her admitted to the clinic again immediately, but Lexi manages to gain her weight again quickly enough that she does not have to go to the clinic.

The film ends with a volleyball game won by Lexi. Lexi suffers from delusions and sees her dead friend standing next to her, but she hides this from everyone.
