Tolomosa Grande is a town in the Tarija Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

location

Tolomosa Grande is the central place of the canton Tolomosa in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Tarija in the province of Cercado . Tolomosa Grande is located at an altitude of 1930  m four kilometers southwest of the reservoir Lago San Jacinto , which drains into the Río Nuevo Guadalquivir , which becomes the Río Tarija downstream .

Tolomosa Grande is conveniently located between the different climatic zones of the country, on the edge of the Andes at an altitude of around 2300  m , so that mostly mild and pleasant weather prevails (see Tarija climate diagram). In the rainy season between December and February (summer months) there are frequent torrential thunderstorms. The rest of the year is extremely low in precipitation.

Transport network

Tolomosa Grande is located seventeen kilometers by road southwest of Tarija , the capital of the department.

The Ruta 1 trunk road runs through Tarija and crosses the Bolivian highlands from north to south and leads from Desaguadero on the Peruvian border via the metropolises of El Alto , Oruro and Potosí to Bermejo on the Argentine border.

You leave Tarija in a westerly direction over the Puente San Martin, which crosses the Río Nuevo Guadalquivir , then follow the Avenida La Banda downstream for one kilometer to the district German Busch. From there the Carretera San Jacinto leads four kilometers in a southerly direction, reaches Lake San Jacinto and after another four kilometers crosses the dam wall of the dam. From here it is another seven kilometers to Tolomosa Grande , first along the south bank of the dam, and then upstream along the Río Tolomosa.
