Tomás Campos (born September 14, 1975 in Tuxpan , Veracruz ) is a former Mexican soccer player who mainly played in midfield .

Life

Campos began his professional career in 1998 in the Mexican second division with Cruz Azul Hidalgo . Two years later he was brought to the first team of Cruz Azul , where he was used for the first time in a game of the first Mexican division on March 25, 2000 in a home game against Atlas Guadalajara (1: 1) .

His greatest success with the Cementeros was reaching the finals of the Copa Libertadores 2001 , where he was used in both matches with the Boca Juniors . In the end, the Argentines won the Copa for the fourth time in their club's history with a 3-1 win on penalties , but Cruz Azul was the first Mexican team to ever reach the final.

Between July 1, 2001 (1-0 win against the USA in qualifying for the 2002 World Cup ) and July 27, 2002 (0-0 against South Korea in the 2002 CONCACAF Gold Cup ), Campos played a total of seven international appearances for " El Tri ". In his fourth international appearance in a friendly against El Salvador on October 31, 2001, Campos scored his only international goal to make it 4-1 in the 70th minute.

In the summer of 2006 he left Cruz Azul and played for a half season each, first with the UANL Tigres and then for Jaguares de Chiapas , before he found a new home in the summer of 2007 with the Indios de Ciudad Juarez .

In his first half season, the Apertura 2007, he won the championship of the Primera División 'A' with the Indios with a 7-0 overall victory in the finals against the Dorados de Sinaloa . In the overall season finale, the Indios prevailed against Club León in summer 2008 and thus rose to the top division for the first time in their still young club history, in which they were represented until 2010. Campos played for the Indios until the beginning of the 2011/12 second division season and then worked as assistant coach to Héctor Hugo Eugui at the Estudiantes Tecos .
