Tom Bertram (born March 30, 1987 in Halle (Saale) ) is a former German football player . He was a central defender and was most recently under contract with third division club FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt since August 2010 . His father Thomas Bertram was also a soccer player and played a few games in the GDR league for Rot-Weiß Erfurt .
Career
youth
At the age of five, Tom Bertram joined FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt and went through all of the club's youth teams until 2005. His great talent was also noticed nationwide, so that Bertram also ran for all junior national teams of the DFB .
Professional career
After the relegation of the professional team from the 2nd Bundesliga , coach Pavel Dotchev brought Bertram into the first team, although he was still eligible to play for the U-19s. Despite his age of only 18 years, he immediately earned a regular place in the central defense of the Thuringians and played 33 games in the regional league in his first season . Despite numerous interested parties from higher leagues, Bertram decided to stay with his home club for another year. There he was able to build on his performance from the previous year and also made his debut in the U-21 national team .
For the 2007/08 season he moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for SpVgg Greuther Fürth . There he could hardly set any accents and did not make his first appearance in the 2nd Bundesliga until matchday 17 against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . In the second half of the season he played five more times. The following year he was sent to the second team, so he left the Franconia during the winter break. From January 2009 he was under contract with the aspirant SC Paderborn 07 . At the beginning of the second half of the season he played only once, then a serious injury (cruciate and ligament tear) ended the season prematurely for him. The SCP was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga, but Bertram was seriously injured again before he was even used one more time.
From August 2010 he was again under contract with FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the 3rd division. Initially, he only played in the league team there in order to reconnect, but from the 12th game day of the season he was a regular player in the professional team of coach Stefan Emmerling and remained so in the 2011/12 season. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season , a knee injury stopped him again, which resulted in his disability and forced him to give up his active career on March 19, 2013.
