Tom Penny

Tom Penny (born April 13, 1977 in Dorchester , Oxfordshire ) is a British skateboarder .

Life

Tom Penny started his career as a professional skater in the UK. His first sponsor was Sean Geoff, owner of the SS20 skate shop in Oxford . Shortly afterwards he became a member of the Death Box skate team , which later became the Flip Skateboards company , with Ian Deacon and Jeremy Fox, as well as Penny, Rune Glifberg , Geoff Rowley and Andy Scott on the team as professional skateboarders . Tom Penny became known through his participation in numerous skateboard competitions, so-called contests and appeared for the first time in a video in 411 Video Magazine in 1993 .

In 1994 Flip Skateboards moved to Huntington Beach , California, and Penny also moved to the United States , where he became a roommate of Chad Muska . His contest winning streak began in the mid to late 1990s. Penny defeated numerous prominent US skaters in competitions, including Eric Koston , Andrew Reynolds , Ray Barbee, Bob Burnquist and Jamie Thomas . Halfpipe legend Tony Hawk is said to have told his competitors at a contest; "If Tom Penny ever starts skating full-time half-pipe, then we can all wrap up."

Penny lived for a few years in Spain and France as well as in Buenos Aires , where he met his partner. In addition to Flip Skateboards, it is currently sponsored by Supra Footwear .

Andrew Reynolds dubbed Penny the king of the frontside flips .
