Tom Scheunemann (born May 12, 1968 in Berlin ) is a German sports reporter .

Private

Growing up as the son of a cycling coach , he didn't find his way to cycling, but became a speed skater . His good performance enabled him to be accepted into the children's and youth sports school (KJS) "Ernst Grube" at the Turn- und Sportclub Berlin (TSC Berlin), where the later famous cyclists Erik Zabel , Jens Voigt and Jan Schaffrath von Scheunemann's father also trained at the same time were. In 1984 Scheunemann left the KJS and opted for a career in merchant shipping. At the Deutsche Seereederei Rostock (DSR) he aspired to become a nautical officer. He wanted to become a “sea captain”. 5 years later, the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification turned his life around.

After 1990

Tom Scheunemann first switched to radio in 1991. Susanne Matthiesen, the editor-in-chief of the news broadcaster Inforadio 101 in Berlin, gave him the chance for an internship, and later he got a traineeship as an editor for news, current affairs and sports. Successful years as a news anchor and sports reporter at Inforadio and Berliner Rundfunk followed.

In 1993 Scheunemann switched from radio to television, initially to the first German private regional broadcaster 1A Fernsehen Berlin / Brandenburg . There he was sports editor and was appointed sports director of the station in 1994 by editor-in-chief Michael Stellmacher.

In November 2008 Scheunemann founded the Art and Friends agency. He supports young artists of modern painting. In July 2009 he founded the online industry service www.bulinews.de . The BuLinews GmbH supplies the football fans in Germany for free with the news of the day specifically about their favorite club.

He saw his first Olympic Games in 2002 as a reporter for Premiere in Salt Lake City. There he was responsible for the competitions in ice hockey and speed skating. The Summer Games in Athens followed in 2004, and in 2006 he was in Turin again for ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG.

In January 2010 Tom Scheunemann was appointed to the ARD Olympic team for the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver / Canada, where he commented on the games of the Olympic ice hockey tournament as an ARD reporter.

In 2011 Tom Scheunemann was a reporter and presenter in ARD winter sports programs (Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cup), as well as at the biggest equestrian event of the year, the World Cup finals in Leipzig and at the Ice Hockey World Championship in Slovakia. In 2012 he will be present again as a moderator at the bobsleigh and skeleton tracks.

Scheunemann received the TV award of the VDS (Association of German Sports Journalists) in 2016 for his TV report “The Pechstein Case”.

In 2018 he again commented on the Olympic ice hockey tournament for ARD and accompanied the DEB selection as a reporter on their historic win of the Olympic silver medal in Pyeongchang.
