Tom Sommerlatte (Manager)

Tom WHA Sommerlatte (* 1938 in Dessau ) is a German manager , business consultant , university professor and painter . He became known, among other things, as chairman of the management consultancy Arthur D. Little . As a consultant , he mainly dealt with strategic innovation management . Since leaving Arthur D. Little, he has devoted himself to painting.

Life

Sommerlatte studied chemistry and chemical process engineering at the Free University of Berlin , in Rochester, in New York and at the Université de Paris . In 1964 he received his diploma in chemistry from the Free University of Berlin. He received his doctorate from the Université de Paris in 1968 with a thesis on chemical engineering. He then did research in the fields of artificial intelligence and knowledge management at the study group for systems research in Heidelberg .

He then went on to study business administration at the European Institute for Business Management (INSEAD) in Fontainebleau , France , where he finally obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree . Summer bar then appeared as a consultant one at the company Arthur D. Little in Brussels, one of the major international consulting firms.

When Arthus D. Little opened a German branch in Wiesbaden in 1973 , Sommerlatte was sent there. In 1976 he became a member of Arthur D. Little's European Directorate and in 1983 Managing Director for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

In 1991 he was given the management of all the company's European activities. In 1997 he finally became Chairman of Arthur D. Little, and since 2008 he has been associated with the company as a "Senior Advisor". Sommerlatte edited and wrote numerous articles and books, especially on the subject of innovation management.

Sommerlatte has lived in Engenhahn near Wiesbaden since 1973 . He has 11 children with his wife Christine, who comes from France. As the father of an extended family, he was also interviewed by the media several times.

Since 1997 he has been honorary professor for innovation management at the University of Kassel .

Activity as an artist

During his studies in Berlin, Sommerlatte took art classes at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin (with Peter Janssen and Hans Uhlmann ). In 1978, Sommerlatte joined the Wiesbaden “artist group 50”; since then he has been regularly represented at the group's exhibitions. He is a member of the Federal Association of Visual Artists (BBK) and chairman of the “Kuratorium der Freunde der Kunst” at the Museum Wiesbaden .

He paints in his studios in Engenhahn and in St. Palais-sur-Mer, France.
