Engenhahn is a district of Niedernhausen in the Rheingau-Taunus district in southern Hesse .

geography

Engenhahn is located about 5 km northwest of Niedernhausen in the heart of the Taunus . The nature reserve and FFH area Theiss Valley of Niedernhausen is located on the southern edge of the district .

history

The place belonged to the Duchy of Nassau until the 19th century . It was first mentioned in a document in 1221 .

On January 1, 1977, as part of the regional reform in Hesse , the previously independent communities of Niedernhausen, Engenhahn, Niederseelbach, Oberseelbach and Oberjosbach became the new community of Niedernhausen by state law. At the same time, the community became part of the Rheingau-Taunus district with the district town of Bad Schwalbach , which was newly founded on the same date . Before that, Niedernhausen belonged to the Main-Taunus-Kreis . For Engenhahn, as for the other districts, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was formed. The seat of the municipal administration remained in Niedernhausen.

coat of arms

On June 27, 1966, the municipality of Engenhahn in the Untertaunuskreis , Wiesbaden district , was awarded a coat of arms with the following blazon : In blue on a green ground, a red-armored golden rooster.

Culture and sights

Regular events

Gickellauf: The Gickellauf of TSV Engenhahn has been one of the most demanding running events in the Rhine-Main area since 1984. The first winner in the men's main run in 1984 was the Darmstadt runner Robert Freimark, who was living in Engenhahn at the time. Here he particularly appreciated the great training ground, in winter for cross-country skiing and in spring for long runs with the appropriate profile. Every year on the third Sunday in September, the Gickellauf attracts hundreds of ambitious runners to the Engenhahn sports field on the Höllenberg, who rave about the family atmosphere and the delightful running routes - they say the end time of the 20-kilometer run multiplied by two plus ten minutes is the end time of the Frankfurt Marathon, dated five weeks later . Thus, the Engenhahn Gickellauf represents an important test run in marathon preparation.

Curb: The Engenhahner Curb is a traditional festival. In addition to the amusement park with a swing boat and a children's carousel, visitors can enjoy their own cider on the program.

societies

  • The gymnastics and sports club (TSV) was founded in Engenhahn in 1977 and offers a variety of sports from mother-child gymnastics to table tennis and advanced mountain biking. The TSV is also attractive for young people, as it has many offers, especially for young people (e.g. annual campaigns such as a visit to the Rebstockbad in Frankfurt).
  • "Kerbeborsch Engenhahn", Engenhahn's notch society.
  • The Engenhahn voluntary fire brigade was founded in 1932, the youth fire brigade in 1987.
  • The Engenhahn Transport and Improvement Association takes care of nature's concerns in and around Engenhahn, the orchards, the open landscape, benches and the green areas in the village. Youth work is also supported.

church

Catholic Church of St. Martha

The Catholic parish church of St. Martha was built in the years 1890/91 in the west of the village.

Public facilities

The Engenhahn kindergarten is located on the eastern edge of the village. The institution is responsible for the Niedernhausen community. The Engenhahn community center and the fire station are adjacent. In the historic town hall in the center of the village there is an office for the mayor (currently Peter Woitsch, SPD) and a club room. Next to the historic town hall is the village's children's playground. The sports field is located south of the town center.

traffic

State road 3273 runs through the village and connects to Taunusstein and federal road 275 and to Niedernseelbach / Niedernhausen. Engenhahn is connected to the local public transport network by the bus line 240 Niedernhausen - Taunusstein operated by the Rheingau-Taunus-Verkehrsgesellschaft (RTV).
