Oberjosbach has been part of the community of Niedernhausen in the Rheingau-Taunus district in southern Hesse since 1977 .
geography
Oberjosbach is located on the eastern edge of the Rhine-Taunus nature park. With around 2,200 inhabitants, it is the second largest district of Niedernhausen.
history
Oberjosbach was first mentioned in a document in 1196. The Archbishop of Mainz granted the community of Gospach the right to build its own Catholic parish church ( St. Michael ) because of the "increase in population and property" .
In 1797, French troops had to be supplied in the wake of the coalition wars. The residents of Oberjosbach complained of extreme poverty. During a bonfire on the occasion of the victory over Napoleon I , 15 hectares of forest burned down on the Schäfersberg in 1813. In 1843 Oberjosbach had 386 inhabitants; one of them was Protestant. According to Prussian cemetery law, a new cemetery was established in 1867, which is still in place today.
Oberjosbach got a water supply pipe in 1904 and electrical lighting in 1907. In 1924 the town hall with bakery ("Backes") was completed. In 1944 the church of St. Michael was destroyed by the effects of the war. In 1973 the community center with a fire station was built.
On January 1, 1977, as part of the regional reform in Hesse , the previously independent communities of Niedernhausen, Engenhahn, Niederseelbach, Oberseelbach and Oberjosbach became the new community of Niedernhausen by state law. At the same time, the community became part of the Rheingau-Taunus district with the district town of Bad Schwalbach , which was newly founded on the same date . Before that, Niedernhausen belonged to the Main-Taunus-Kreis . For Oberjosbach, as for the other districts, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was formed. The seat of the municipal administration remained in Niedernhausen.

On December 28, 1970, the municipality of Oberjosbach in the then Untertaunuskreis was awarded a coat of arms with the following blazon : In silver, a red flaming sword placed obliquely to the left .
