Thomas Charles "Tom" Williams (born February 7, 1951 in Windsor , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 426 games for the New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings in National Hockey in the course of his active career between 1968 and 1979 League on the position of the left winger .

Career

Williams spent his junior years between 1968 and 1971 with the Hamilton Red Wings in the Ontario Hockey Association . In all three years, the left winger reached over 20 goals and 50 points scorer , so that in the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft he was selected in the second round in 27th place by the New York Rangers from the National Hockey League .

The attacker then switched to the professional field in the summer of 1971, but was mainly used in the Central Hockey League with the Omaha Knights and then in the American Hockey League with the Providence Reds in the following two seasons . During the two years of play, Williams also made his NHL debut for New York and was named Rookie of the Year in the CHL . After 13 missions over a period of two years, the Canadian was with the beginning of the 1973/74 season in the regular squad of the New York Rangers. However, they separated from him in a transfer deal at the end of November 1973 when he was handed over to the Los Angeles Kings together with Mike Murphy and Sheldon Kannegiesser . In return, the New York Rangers secured the services of Gilles Marotte and Réal Lemieux .

With the season already started, Williams spent six seasons with the Californians and proved to be a constant scorer there. His best year was in the 1976/77 season when he scored 74 points, including 35 goals. After his offensive production sank rapidly in the following two years, the Kings separated from Williams in August 1979. They sent him to the St. Louis Blues to settle a transfer deal made two months earlier. Williams could not gain a foothold in the Blues and began the season with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles farm team in the Central Hockey League. After eleven games for the team, he ended his active career during the season at the age of 28.
