Tomasz Tomiak

Tomasz Piotr Tomiak (born September 17, 1967 in Nowy Tomyśl , † August 21, 2020 in Gdansk ) was a Polish rower . In 1992 he won the Olympic bronze medal in a four-man team .

Career

In 1985 Tomasz Tomiak, who is about 1.91 m tall, took fourth place in a pair with a helmsman at the Junior World Championships together with Krzysztof Polanczyk and helmsman Michał Cieślak . At the World Championships in 1987 Tomiak and Polanczyk rowed in the Polish eighth , which finished tenth.

Two years later, Tomiak started at the 1989 World Championships in Bled together with Wojciech Jankowski and Michał Cieślak in two with a helmsman and took sixth place. In 1991 a Polish foursome with a helmsman was formed with the line-up of Wojciech Jankowski, Maciej Łasicki , Jacek Streich , Tomasz Tomiak and Michał Cieślak. At the World Championships in Vienna in 1991 , the German four-man won ahead of the Romanians and the Polish boat, which had a lead of 0.2 seconds over the fourth-placed British at the finish. A year later at the Olympic Games in Barcelona , the Polish four-man rowed with helmsman in the same line-up as last year. In the Olympic final, the Romanians won ahead of the Germans and the Poles, who this time had a lead of almost three seconds over the fourth-placed boat from the United States.

In 1993 Tomiak competed in two boat classes at the World Championships in Račice u Štětí . Jankowski, Łasicki, Streich and Tomiak won the silver medal in the four without a helmsman behind the French boat . The four rowers were also members of the Polish eight, which took seventh place. In 1994 Jankowski, Łasicki, Streich and Tomiak finished fifth again at the World Championships in Indianapolis . In 1995 Tomiak was replaced by Piotr Basta in the Polish foursome .

Tomasz Tomiak rowed for the AZS-AWFiS Gdańsk association .
