Tommy Danielsson

Tommy Danielsson (born January 29, 1959 in Sölvesborg ) is a former Swedish , Australian and Luxembourg table tennis player and trainer. He took part in three world championships .

Career

Tommy Danielsson was born in Sweden in 1959. In 1978 he played for Sweden at the European Championships . In the late 1970s he married an Australian. From then on he played internationally under the flag of Australia, for example at the World Championships in 1979 , 1981 and 1987 . Here, however, he never came close to medal ranks.

He was successful at the Oceania Championships. Here he reached the final in singles in 1981 and won gold in doubles. In 1986 he was Oceania champion in singles and with the team, in doubles he was second. He took part in the World Cup twice, namely in 1984 in Kuala Lumpur and 1985 in Foshan.

In 1980 Tommy Danielsson moved from the Swedish club BTK Sölvesborg to the German Bundesliga at TTC Plaza Altena . He stayed here until 1982. In July 1990, he took on German citizenship, which made it easier for him to work for German clubs as it spared their quota of foreigners. Until 1994 he played at Spvg Steinhagen , then at MTG Horst-Essen , whose men's team became champions of the 2nd Bundesliga North at the end of the 1994/95 season. In 1996 he was hired by the Galaxis Lübeck team . He also helped this team to rise to the 1st Bundesliga in 1997/98.

In the 1990s he started working as a coach. From August 1995 he worked as the national coach of Luxembourg, in 1998 he coached the Lübeck team, but played at PSV Eutin .

In 2001 and 2002 Tommy Danielsson was German senior champion in the over 40 age group.

Private

Tommy Danielsson was initially married to an Australian named Karen, with her he has three children. Karen Danielsson also played table tennis, won silver at the 1982 Oceania Championships in doubles and was active at Spvg Steinhagen and Team Galaxis Lübeck. Tommy Danielsson later married the Chinese national table tennis player Ni Xialian from Luxembourg .
