Tommy Gumina
Tommy Gumina (* 20th May 1931 in Milwaukee ; † 28. October 2013 in Los Angeles ) was an American jazz - accordionist .
Gumina attended Don Bosco High School in Milwaukee. He began playing the accordion at the age of 11 and performed at weddings in the 1950s. After being discovered in a club by Harry James at the age of 18 , he appeared on television shows such as Liberace , the Ed Sullivan Show , the Jackie Gleason Show and in Las Vegas . In the early 1960s he formed a quartet with Buddy DeFranco that recorded a total of five albums. In 1961 Stan Kenton brought him to teach Kentons Jazzkuse at Michigan State University .
Gumina worked in the design and marketing department of an accordion manufacturer; In 1968 he founded the Polytone Amplifier Company . In the course of his career he played a. a. with Harry James, Joe Pass and Art Pepper . In the field of jazz, he was involved in 25 recording sessions between 1952 and 1990.
