Ton Vrolijk

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ton Vrolijk is a former Dutch track cyclist and later a cycling official .

Ton Vrolijk was a specialist in short-term disciplines on the track, especially sprint and tandem races . Between 1980 and 1984 he won the Dutch championship four times on the tandem, once with Lau Veldt and three times with Sjaak Pieters . At the UCI Track World Championships in 1982 in Leicester , he finished third in the tandem race together with Pieters.

After the end of his active cycling career, he became the manager of various cycling teams , most recently the women's cycling team Bik-Power Plate . In 2004 he was accused by the main sponsor Michael Bik of having doped the driver Anita Valen de Vries with caffeine without her knowledge , which is why she tested positive in a race; Vrolijk vehemently denied this. The Dutch Cycling Federation stated that no evidence could be found for the allegation. As a result of these arguments, the team was disbanded.
