Tongxinite is a very rare mineral from the mineral class of metals and intermetallic compounds. It crystallizes in the cubic crystal system and forms gold-colored, up to 0.2 mm large, irregular crystals. The mineral is an end link of the series Cu 2 Zn (Tongxinit) - CuZn 2 ( Danbait ), an intermediate link is Zhanghengite (CuZn).
Etymology and history
The mineral was first in the type locality of Baxi- Gold -Lagerstätte in Zoige (Ruo'ergai)若尔盖巴西金矿床, Province of Sichuan ( China discovered). It was named after the Chinese name for its components, the elements copper ( Chinese 铜 , Pinyin Tong ) and zinc ( Chinese 锌 , Pinyin Xin ), the Chinese name is Tongxinkuang ( 铜 锌矿 ). The mineral has not yet been reported to the International Mineralogical Association .
classification
In the ninth edition of the Strunz system , tongxinite is classified under the elements and intermetallic compounds. It can be found there in the subgroup of the zinc-brass family. In the systematics of minerals according to Dana , the elements are classified in the group of elements without a classification number, all of which bear the number 1.0.0.0 for the elements.
Education and Locations
The very rare mineral was found next to the type locality in the province of Sichuan in the autonomous region of Tibet in the copper - molybdenum deposits of Malasongduo and Yulong in Jomda ( Jiangda ), Qamdo ( Changdu ).
At the type locality, tongxinite was found together with sphalerite , marcasite , stibnite and chalcopyrite in a breccia zone of the gold deposit. In Yulong in Tibet it occurs with chalcopyrite, cosalite and galenobismutite in the quartz-covered zone of a porphyry copper deposit, in Malasongduo it occurs in association with pyrite, chalcopyrite, enargite, tennantite and bornite in a rhyolite .
Crystal structure
Tongxinite crystallizes in the cubic crystal system. The space group is not known, the lattice parameter is a = 7.735 Å .
