Tonk ( Hindi : टोंक , Ṭoṅk ) is a city ( Municipal Council ) in the Indian state of Rajasthan and the capital of the administrative district of Tonk .
The city is about 279 meters above sea level, 100 kilometers by road south of Jaipur , the capital of Rajasthan. The Banas River flows north past Tonk. The national highway NH 12 ( Kota- Jaipur) runs through Tonk. The NH 116 connects Tonk with Sawai Madhopur . The population of Tonk was around 165,000 in the 2011 census.
Tonk was the capital of the former princely state of Tonk .
