Tony Aless , actually Anthony Alessandrini , (born August 22, 1921 in Garfield , New Jersey , † January 11, 1988 in New York City ) was an American jazz pianist . He played with Charlie Parker and Woody Herman .

Tony Aless played with Bunny Berigan at the age of 17 , from 1940 to 1942 with Johnny McGhee , Teddy Powell and Vaughn Monroe . After military service (1942-44) he worked in Woody Herman's band in 1945/46 and later with Charlie Spivak . He also played with Georgie Auld , Flip Phillips , Chubby Jackson and accompanied Charlie Parker with Neal Hefti's orchestra . After studying for three years at the New York Conservatory, Aless only worked in studio groups and was employed at radio stations. His most famous album isLong Island Suite from 1955 starring trombonists Jay Jay Johnson and Kai Winding and alto saxophonist Dave Schildkraut . In the same year he took part in recordings of Seldon Powell . Aless combined elements of bop , cool and mainstream jazz in his style .
