Dave Schildkraut

David "Dave" Schildkraut (* 7. January 1925 in New York ; † 1. January 1998 ) was an American jazz - saxophonist of the bebop and modern jazz . He became known through Miles Davis ' " Walkin' " session in 1954.

Live and act

Dave Schildkraut's professional musician career began in 1941 with Louis Prima , from 1946 he played several times with Buddy Rich , in 1947 with Anita O'Day . In 1953 he toured Europe with the Stan Kenton band. This was followed by engagements with Pete Rugolo (1954), Oscar Pettiford (1954), George Handy (1955) and in 1959 again with Stan Kenton. At the beginning of the 1960s he led a quartet in New York City and worked there freelance with Eddie Bert in the West End Cafe . He has also made records with Tony Aless , Eddie Bert, Ralph Burns , George Handy, Kenton, Tito Puente and Johnny Richards . But best known are his recordings with Miles Davis, which appeared on the record Walkin ' : The titles Solar , Love Me or Leave Me and You Don't Know What Love Is were published on April 29, 1954 by Davis, Schildkraut, Horace Silver ( p), Percy Heath (b) and Kenny Clarke (dr) included.

Schildkraut's game was fluid and elegant to brilliant and in bebop style. In a blindfold test by Down Beat Magazine with his solo on Solar , Charles Mingus even mistook him for Charlie Parker.

In 2000 the label Endgame Records released its only album as a leader under its own name, Last Date (1979, with Bill Triglia ).
