Bill Triglia

William E. "Bill" Triglia (born February 22, 1924 in the Bronx , New York City , † February 3, 2011 in Hackensack (New Jersey) ) was an American jazz pianist who worked with a wide variety of jazz musicians from Louis Armstrong to worked for Sonny Rollins .

Live and act

Triglia, whose parents were pianists, had lessons from his uncle; at the age of twelve he made his first professional appearances. He graduated from Park Ridge High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He then studied from 1945 at the Juilliard School of Music . He began his musician career in New York clubs like the Playboy Club , Village Vanguard and Birdland . In 1948 he worked for the first time with recordings of Tony Fruscella , with whom he recorded three albums. He also played with Charlie Parker at a Jewish wedding. He has worked with the orchestras of Les Elgart , Alvino Rey , Sam Donahue , Johnny Bothwell , Georgie Auld and Terry Gibbs .

He became better known in the jazz scene in the 1950s through recordings with Hank D'Amico ( Holiday with Hank , 1954), Sam Most ( I'm Nuts About The Most .... Sam That Is!, 1955), Jackie Paris ( Can't Get Started with You , 1955), Zoot Sims , Lester Young ( Live at Birdland , 1956), Jimmy Knepper and Charles Mingus ( Tijuana Moods , 1957), Don Joseph (1984) and through his collaboration with Buddy Rich and Jimmy Dorsey . In 1979 an album was created with Dave Schildkraut , with which he had already performed in Cafe Bohemia in 1959 . Triglia worked as a music teacher well into old age and performed in his home town of Westwood (New Jersey) . He died in Hackensack, New Jersey, aged 86.
