Hank D'Amico
Henry "Hank" D'Amico (* 21st March 1915 in Rochester (New York) ; † 3. December 1965 in New York City ) was an American jazz - clarinet .
Hank D'Amico first played the violin , then switched to the clarinet and made his first appearances in Buffalo (New York) . He began his musical career in bands that performed on the Great Lakes between Chicago and Buffalo; In 1936 he played for Paul Specht and immediately switched to Red Norvo . In 1938 he appeared on radio broadcasts with his own octet; In 1939 he briefly returned to Norvo's band. In 1940/41 he played in Bob Crosby's orchestra and in 1941 led his own big band. D'Amico then worked for a short time in the bands of Les Brown , Benny Goodman and again with Norvo before he worked as a studio musician for the ABC radio station in New York. He also played with Miff Mole and Tommy Dorsey . After ten years at ABC, D'Amico worked for Jack Teagarden in 1954 ; after that he played mostly in smaller formations and occasionally led his own groups. In 1964 he appeared at the World's Fair in New York with the Morey Feld trio .
During his career, D'Amico has worked on recordings with Louis Armstrong , Mildred Bailey , Eddie Condon , Erroll Garner , Johnny Guarnieri , Coleman Hawkins , Horace Henderson / Buck Clayton , Max Kaminsky , Carl Kress , Wingy Manone , Charlie Shavers , Maxine Sullivan , George Wettling and Lester Young (1948).
