Tony Dunham

Tony Dunham (born April 9, 1956 in London ) is a British author , actor and director . He moved to Germany in 1989 and has lived in Cologne ever since .

Life

Tony Dunham grew up in his native London and completed his school education there. After high school he studied theater and literature at the UK University of Warwick in West Midlands . In addition to his studies, he continued his self-taught from the actor. From mid-1980 to early 1981 he worked as a nurse at St Bartholomew's Hospital in London; He then worked from February 1981 to July 1981 as an acting teacher at the US University of California, Irvine . After his return to England he worked from September 1981 to June 1982 as an acting therapist in four different psychiatric clinics of Shape London Ltd. in London.

In 1981 he founded the comedy group Confederacy of Fools in London together with actor and director Robert Siān , with which he moved to Cologne in 1989. Dunham has been the artistic director of the comedy group since its inception . His 1990 single comedy Traumfrau desperel sucht was shown by Confederacy of Fools in more than 800 performances in Germany until 2016; Numerous other German theaters had the comedy on their own staging. Since 1992 the comedy group has performed several times in the Theater am Sachsenring (TAS) in Cologne . On behalf of the TAS, Dunham wrote the plays Cloudbuster , Stumm! and really brecht , all three of which were staged by Joe Knipp , the artistic director of the TAS.

In addition, from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s, Dunham took on individual directing and writing assignments for the stage and television . He also appeared as an actor in supporting roles in two feature films (1993, 2013), had speaking roles in a video game (2010), was portrayed in a short documentary film and acted as the narrator in another short documentary (both 2010).

Tony Dunham lives and works in Cologne.
