Tony Hicks (musician, 1948)

Tony Hicks (born August 8, 1948 in Middlesbrough , † August 12, 2006 in Sydney ) was a British fusion drummer.

Hicks learned the drums in high school. At the age of sixteen he worked as a roadie for Eric Delaney before becoming a drummer in his band. In 1971 he formed the band Back Door with Colin Hodgkinson and Ron Aspery , with whom he recorded several albums and in which he stayed until 1975. Then he worked with Andy Fraser , with Robert Wyatt ( Flotsam Jetsam ), with Assegai (with Dudu Pukwana ), with Alexis Korner ( Juvenile Delinquent ), Chris Rea , Georgie Fame , Cornelius Cardew ( We Only Want the Earth ) and Paul Butterfield . He lived temporarily in Australia , where he performed with Dave MacRaes Pacific Eardrum , but also with the English Jazz Quartet . He also played with Alex Conti and Frank Diez ( Berlin Blues ).
