Tony Robinson
Sir Anthony (Tony) Robinson , (born August 15, 1946 in London ) is an English actor, author and political activist. He is best known in the German-speaking world for his portrayal of the servant Baldrick in the television series Blackadder .
Life
Tony Robinson gained his first acting experience while still at school. This was followed by a visit to the Central School of Speech and Drama . After various jobs on theatrical stages and in television studios, he made his big breakthrough in 1983 when he was cast as Baldrick alongside Rowan Atkinson .
From 1994–2014 he was presenter of Channel 4's successful popular science archeology television series Time Team . In 2003 he went on tour with his stand-up program Tony Robinson's Cunning Night Out .
He is the author of several books, including many children's books. As a fan of Terry Pratchett , he was the narrator for several audio book productions based on Pratchett's works and also took on speaking roles for the computer game Discworld, which is based on the Discworld novels .
In 2013, Tony Robinson was knighted by Prince William on behalf of the Queen .
Political commitment
Tony Robinson was Vice President of the Equity Union ( actors , stage managers and models union ) from 1996-2000 . He is a long-time member of the Labor Party and was also elected to the influential party's National Executive Committee from 2000–2004 . In 2019, after 45 years of membership, he resigned from the Labor Party in protest against the handling of Brexit and internal anti - Semitic incidents . After the election of the new chairman Keir Starmer on April 4, 2020, he rejoined the party.
