history
The place was of Slavic origin but had a German name. 1293 Richnowe, 1336 Richenaw, 1353 Reichnaw. Despite the Slavic ending "ow" , which was later changed to aw, the name apparently contains the German word "reich" , Middle High German "rich" . In 1316, the Bishop of Wroclaw Heinrich von Würben bought the place from Knight Johann von Letcz for 400 marks to give it to the Kamenz Monastery as a gift. In 1317 the widow Ursula Appezon also handed over her property in Reichenau to the monastery. Duke Bernhard II of the Duchy of Schweidnitz , to which Reichenau belonged at the time, confirmed this donation in 1317 and that of 1316.
