Tops & Bottoms is a 1999 documentary by Canadian director Christine Richey .
The production depicts everyday life in the Canadian BDSM scene and provides a historical overview of the development of the topic. In doing so, she draws an arc of content ranging from de Sade , Leopold von Sacher-Masoch and Richard von Krafft-Ebing to the life of today's tops and bottoms .
In addition to interviews with various tops and bottoms, the film tries to establish a relationship between the social reality of the 20th century and BDSM.
