The Torfbahn Kerzhenets River ( Russian Узкоколейная железная дорога Керженского торфопредприятия , transkr. Uskokoleinaja schelesnaja doroga Kerschenskowo torfopredpijatija , transl. Uzkokolejnaâ železnaâ doroga Kerženskogo torfopredpriâtiâ ) is a narrow-gauge railway near boron in the Nizhny Novgorod in Russia .
history
The 14 km long peat railway was put into operation in 1945. The narrow-gauge railway has a track width of 750 mm and is still used all year round by OAO "Борресурсы" for transporting peat and workers. The route runs from the north end of Kerzhenets River north into the peat fields.
Until 1997, the railway terminus was in the Pionersky settlement on the Kerzhenets River . The peat briquette factory "Bor Torf" (Russian ЗАО "Борская торфяная компания" ) was built there in 2002 and started operating in 2004.

More narrow-gauge railways
Of the large number of narrow-gauge railways that were built from the 1930s onwards mainly for the removal of wood and peat and were mostly still in operation in the 1980s, there is only one other peat railroad in the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast today (as of 2016) received, the Alzewo peat railway . There are also some factory railways , for example at the Kaprolaktam chemical factory in Dzerzhinsk and at the Peschelan plaster works near Arsamas .
