Hendrik Torge Schmidt (born July 30, 1988 in Itzehoe ) is a former German politician ( Pirate Party Germany ). Schmidt was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament from 2012 to 2017 and chairman of the pirate group from May 2013 to April 2016 .

biography

Schmidt is a trained wholesale and foreign trade merchant and has been studying business informatics at the University of Hagen since the 2010 winter semester . Professionally, he says he has “a lot to do with renewable energies such as photovoltaic and biogas systems”.

Political commitment

Schmidt joined the Pirate Party in June 2009 . From July 11, 2010 to June 24, 2012, he was Deputy Chairman of the Schleswig-Holstein State Board. On October 9, 2011, he was elected to the list number 1 of the party for the 2012 state elections in Schleswig-Holstein and thus in the election on May 6, 2012 in the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament . Like Sven Krumbeck , he was one of six young pirates with a seat in a state parliament.

His stepfather Hans-Heinrich Piepgras , former chairman of the board of the regional association , ran as a direct candidate for the constituency of Elmshorn and in 7th place, his mother Birgitt Piepgras in 9th place on the state list. Both parents did not move into the state parliament. On the evening of the election, Schmidt announced on NDR television that the pirate party could possibly tolerate a government alliance made up of the SPD , Greens and SSW (the so-called Danish traffic light ), depending on discussions - the SPD, Greens and SSW together only had a very thin one in the state parliament Majority of one seat.

On May 21, 2012 he was elected parliamentary director in the newly founded parliamentary group. Schmidt did not want to accept or possibly donate the remuneration for the managing director, which is paid in addition to the parliamentary allowance. From the pirates' point of view, they are unconstitutional .

Like most members of the Pirate Party, he classified himself more as left than right and more as libertarian than authoritarian. He clearly set himself apart from right-wing extremist members, saying that these were "individuals who wandered astray who want to use the openness of the party for their own purposes".

From May 21, 2013 to April 12, 2016 Torge Schmidt was parliamentary group leader of the pirate group and then deputy chairman of the group. He no longer wanted to stand for the state election in 2017 and start studying. On June 18, 2017, he announced his resignation from the Pirate Party on his blog.
