Torgu was on the southern tip of Saaremaa island on the Sõrve peninsula (German: Sworbe ). In addition to the administrative center Iide the rural municipality includes the villages HÄNGA , Jämaja , Kaavi , Kargi , Karuste , Kaunispe , Laadla , Lindmetsa , Lõupõllu , Läbara , Lülle , Maanteeküla , Mõisaküla , Mõntu , Mäebe , Mässa , Ohessaare , Soodevahe , Sääre , Tammuna and Türju .
The landscape on the Sõrve peninsula (total length 32 km, maximum width 10 km) is interesting for nature lovers and hiking tourists.
In 1944 devastating battles between the German Wehrmacht and the Red Army took place on Sõrve . Some preserved military buildings as well as a Soviet memorial remind of this today .
