Torodi is a department in the region of Tillabéri in Niger .

geography

The department is located in the southwest of the country. It consists of the rural parishes of Makalondi and Torodi . The eponymous capital of the department is Torodi.

history

The department goes back to the administrative post ( poste administratif ) of Torodi, which was established in 1971. In 2011 the administrative post was removed from the Say department and elevated to the Torodi department.

population

According to the 2012 census, the Torodi department has 189,124 inhabitants. From 2001 to 2012 the number of inhabitants rose by an average of 3.9% annually (nationwide: also 3.9%).

administration

At the head of the department is a prefect (French: préfet ) who is appointed by the Council of Ministers on the proposal of the Minister of the Interior .
