Balleyara is a department in the region of Tillabéri in Niger .

geography

The department is located in the southwest of the country. It extends over the territory of the Tagazar rural community . The eponymous capital of the department is Balleyara .

history

The department goes back to the poste administratif of Balleyara, which was established in 1971. In 2011 the administrative post was removed from the Filingué department and raised to the Balleyara department.

population

The Balleyara department has 108,366 inhabitants according to the 2012 census. From 2001 to 2012 the population increased by an average of 2.7% annually (nationwide: 3.9%).

At the head of the department is a prefect (French: préfet ) who is appointed by the Council of Ministers on the proposal of the Minister of the Interior .
