Torotoro (or: Toro Toro ) is a town in the Potosí Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Torotoro is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Toro Toro in the northern part of the province of Charcas . The village is located at an altitude of 2705 m, 140 km south of Cochabamba in the center of the Torotoro National Park .
history
Toro Toro is in the late colonial period of mestizos - internal migrants from Cochabamba was founded. On November 21, 1883 he was granted the status of "Municipio". The municipality of Torotoro has an area of 1,169 km² and a population of 10,535 inhabitants (2001 census), which corresponds to a population density of 9 inhabitants per km².

Torotoro lies between the two Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Central and Cordillera Oriental .
The climate is pleasantly balanced due to the altitude, but very dry for large parts of the year. The mean average temperature of the region is around 18 ° C (see climate diagram), the monthly mean fluctuates only slightly between 14.5 ° C in July and 20 ° C from November to January. The annual precipitation is about 560 mm, with a clearly pronounced dry season from April to October with monthly precipitation below 25 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with well over 100 mm monthly precipitation.
Transport network
Torotoro is 160 kilometers north of Potosí , the capital of the department, as the crow flies . The village can only be reached on a gravel road via Estancia Sucusuma on the Río Caine from the direction of Cochabamba.

Due to the historical population distribution, the region has a significant proportion of Quechua population, in the Municipio Toro Toro 99.1 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
