Torquhil Ian Campbell, 13th Duke of Argyll (born May 29, 1968 ) is a Scottish peer and chief of the House of Argyll and the Campbell clan . The family seat is Inveraray Castle .

Until 1973 he held the courtesy title Earl of Campbell , from 1973 to 2001 the courtesy title Marquess of Lorne .

Life

Ian Campell is the eldest and only son of his father Ian Campbell, 12th Duke of Argyll, and his mother Iona Mary Colquhoun. He enjoyed an extensive education in numerous private schools, so he attended a. a. the Cargilfield Preparatory School in Edinburgh , Glenalmond College in Perth and Kinross, and the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester . He also completed his training as a chartered surveyor .

From 1981 to 1983 he served Queen Elisabeth as a royal page in the royal family . He then became a sales representative , salesman and company manager. When his father died in 2001, he inherited his title of nobility as Duke of Argyll . Among his 29 titles are: Master of the Royal Household of Scotland, Admiral of the Western Shores and Isles, and Clan Chief of Clan Campbell.

The Duke is also the captain of the Scottish elephant polo team , the team won the World Cup in 2004 and 2005 under his leadership. He is also the ambassador of the French wine and spirits group Pernod Ricard .

He holds the title of Freeman of the City of London, is chairman of the Professional Association Worshipful Company of Distillers for Whiskey - Distilleries and member of the League of Freemasons .

On June 8, 2002, the Duke married Eleanor M. Cadbury at St. Mary's Church in Fairford .
