Career

Player career

Torsten Gowitzke played in his youth with Hertha Zehlendorf , among others , before he signed his first professional contract with Hertha BSC in 1985 . At Hertha, Gowitzke immediately became a regular player in the 2nd Bundesliga . At the end of the season, Hertha rose for the first time in the third division. The following league season was dominated by Hertha at will and only lost on the last matchday at VfB Neukölln . Gowitzke himself played in 26 of 30 games, only Heiko Meier had more appearances. In the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga, Gowitzke was in all eight games, but missed the direct promotion through a defeat in the last game against BVL 08 Remscheid . In 1987/88 Hertha was able to successfully defend the league title and rise after the promotion round together with Eintracht Braunschweig . In the second division season 1988/89 , Hertha managed confidently to stay under the new coach Werner Fuchs . In 1989/90 Hertha BSC celebrated promotion as the second division champions at the end of the season. Gowitzke, like Walter Junghans and Theo Gries, had played all 38 league games. In the Bundesliga , however, Hertha could not keep up with the competition. Gowitzke could not be satisfied with his personal season either, so he played almost half a year during the tenure of Pál Csernai , only under Peter Neururer and Karsten Heine did he find a place in the starting XI again. Under the new trainer Bernd Stange , Gowitzke made 21 appearances in 1991/92 , but was only substituted 15 times. The targeted resurgence was just missed with third place. 1992/93 Gowitzke initially played regularly before he was injured in September and was out for the rest of the season.

In 1993 Torsten Gowitzke moved to city rivals SC Charlottenburg . The top division missed qualification for the newly introduced regional league in 1993/94 with 10th place . In 1994/95 Charlottenburg took 5th place. It was not until 1995/96 that the ascent was realized, if only because of the better goal difference compared to the tied VfB Lichterfelde and Türkiyemspor Berlin . In the regional league Gowitzke had to relegate in the 1996/97 season together with the FSV Velten beaten again.

Coaching career

In 1998 Gowitzke took over the coaching position of the SCC in the Verbandsliga Berlin for a year and a half. In 2006 he was there again as a trainer for half a year.

Private

Torsten Gowitzke still plays regularly in the senior men's team at SFC Stern 1900 .
