Tour du Faso is a German-French documentary directed by Wilm Huygen from 2014 . The theme of the film is the Tour du Faso , an annual cycling tour through the West African country of Burkina Faso .

action

Huygen accompanies the Tour du Faso 2011 in his film . First he briefly describes the history of the race. Then the documentary focuses on three amateur participants - one cyclist each from France, Burkina Faso and Germany (Benjamin Höber). You struggle with the heat and unpaved roads on the approximately 1,300-kilometer route. The German team also struggles with the driving behavior and interpretation of the rules of the Africans. In addition to the experiences of the drivers, their motives for participating in the race are also illuminated. Another topic is, in contrast to the Tour de France , the hardly pronounced commercialization of the Tour du Faso.

background

The film was produced by Augenschein Filmproduktion GmbH in Cologne. Co-producer was La Huit Production based in Paris. The project was funded by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW , the Filmförderungsanstalt , the German Filmförderfonds and the Center national du cinéma et de l'image animée . The shooting took place in 2011 in Burkina Faso. The film was shown at the Biberach Film Festival on October 30, 2013 . It was released in German cinemas on May 29, 2014.

According to producer Jonas Katzenstein , the film is a parable about the relationship between Europe and Africa.

Reviews

"Nice documentary about three racing cyclists who take part in the" Tour du Faso ", the largest bike tour through Africa."

"While he [Wilm Huygen] is capturing impressive pictures of the race, in" Tour du Faso "he doesn't get close enough to the drivers."

“Unfortunately, he [Wilm Huygen] often only elicits moderately exciting things from the drivers [...]. In addition, the impressions from the race itself repeat themselves in the long run. Most interesting [..] are the many impressions from the edge of the tour. "
