The Tourville class was a class of guided missile destroyers in the French Navy .

General

In 1970, work began on the first Tourville class ship. It was named after the French admiral and marshal Tourville . The Tourville (D610) was launched in 1972 and entered service in 1975. The ships Duguay-Trouin (D611) and de Grasse (D612) followed. The main task of the ships within the fleet was the protection against attacks from the air and the anti-submarine defense. The Duguay-Trouin was decommissioned in 1999, the other two units were modernized between 1994 and 1996. The Tourville was finally decommissioned on June 11, 2011, the De Grasse followed in May 2013.

Armament

The main armament of Tourville-class consists of a number of different sea target - air defense - and anti-submarine -Flugkörper. The Exocet missile is used to combat naval targets. The air-conditioned starters are behind the bridge. An eight- fold launcher Crotale Naval is used for air defense . Among the Exocet launchers is a Mallafon type launcher for launching anti- submarine missiles.

In addition to the rocket armament, the Tourville has three 100 mm guns, its two sister ships two. Furthermore, a Sea Lynx helicopter is carried for the submarine hunt , armed either with Mk 46 torpedoes or depth charges. The Tourville-class units also have electronic warfare options .
