traffiQ local transport company Frankfurt am Main mbH is the local transport company of the city of Frankfurt am Main . On August 30, 2001, the city council decided to found the local local transport company Frankfurt am Main mbH. As part of the changed legal framework, it was spun off from Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt am Main (VGF) on September 1, 2001 in order to separate the functions as a responsible authority (traffiQ) and transport company (VGF and others) and was given the brand name traffiQ in 2002 .

tasks

The business purpose is, among other things, the timetable design , the traction specifications and traffic planning details and thus has overall responsibility for the design of local public transport in Frankfurt am Main. TraffiQ is not responsible for regional rail ( S-Bahn and regional trains) and bus transport (especially former rail bus routes ), which are planned, tendered, commissioned and monitored directly by the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV). Lines that cross the Frankfurt city limits but are not classified as regional buses (e.g. OF ‑ 103) must be coordinated between the responsible local public transport companies.

The most important function in addition to the requirements planning is therefore the implementation of tenders for the transport services, the processing of these procurement procedures and the monitoring of the provision of services. The Frankfurt bus routes (with the exception of the regional bus routes) have been divided into seven bundles, with one bundle being tendered annually. The tram and subway network, however, was not put out to tender, but was awarded to Stadtwerke Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt am Main (VGF) by January 31, 2031 in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1370/2007 by decision of the city council .

In December 2015, a type MAN ND 202 double-decker bus , which was formerly operated by BVG in Berlin , was used on line 34 in Frankfurt am Main. This and other tests on line 30 in February 2016 with the type MAN Lion's City DD A39 were intended to check whether double-decker buses should be used again in future (as from 1967 to 1976) to increase capacity on certain lines in Frankfurt, on which the use of articulated buses is not possible because of their length. The evaluation showed that the passengers avoid the upper floor on short stretches and therefore no proper process can be guaranteed.

At the request of the magistrate, the city council decided in July 2014 not to tender line bundle D for the period from August 2015 to July 2025, but to award it directly to the municipal subsidiary In-der-City-Bus GmbH. Due to the results of the last tenders, the magistrate feared increasing market concentration and considered it necessary to maintain a functioning municipal bus transport company including the associated infrastructure (workshops and depot) as an alternative course of action.
