The in-the-City Bus GmbH (ICB) was established in 1992 by the transport company Sippel based in Hofheim am Taunus founded as a 100 percent subsidiary. In 1999 Stadtwerke Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt am Main mbH (VGF) initially took over 51% of the shares and on January 1, 2006 bought the entire company, which was now a wholly-owned subsidiary of VGF. On September 1, 2014, the shares were fully taken over by Stadtwerke Frankfurt am Main Holding .

Line tenders

The ICB actively participated in the tender for the Frankfurt bus routes by the local public transport company traffiQ . In the tenders, line bundle A (lines 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 56, 60, 71, 72, 73) went to Transdev Rhein-Main , line bundle B to DB Busverkehr Hessen (now DB Regiobus Mitte) , bundle C (lines 33, 35, 37, 51, 52, 61, 68, 78, 79) to Sippel Autobus (until December 2020) and line bundle E (32, 34, 39, 63, 64, 66, 69 ). Since December 2005 the ICB has been operating line bundle D, which consists of the following lines: 30, 31, 36, 38, 42, 43, 44, 75, n1 / n11, n2, n3, n4, n5, n62 / n63, n7 and n8. In December 2011, the ICB was awarded the contract for the line bundle D again, but the night bus routes were removed and also divided between the other line bundles, depending on the destination. Line bundle D therefore only contains the following bus and night bus lines: 30, 31, 36, 38, 42, 43, 44, 75, n5, n62 and n63. Since December 2015, the ICB has been operating the line bundle E again. The ICB was unable to prevail in the tender for the line bundle B, so that this service was taken over by DB Busverkehr Hessen when the timetable changed in December 2014. From December 2020, the ICB will again be operating bundle C (lines 33, 35, 37, 51, 52, 61, 68, 78, 79)
