Transsyberia rally
The Transsyberia Rally was a license-free rally raid and took place from 2003 to 2008. Every year it led from Eastern Europe to Asia . There were on-road sections as connecting stages to overcome distance and off-road sections in which special tests were held. Participation was open to amateurs and professionals, and vehicles were driven in series production.
history
The first Transsyberia Rally started on September 2, 2003 in Poland and ended on September 30, 2003 in the Russian port city of Magadan on the East Siberian coast. The first organizer was Romuald Koperski. In August 2006 Richard Schalber took part in the Transsyberia Rally for the first time and won it. His company, Schalber Event GmbH, then acquired the rights and has since taken over the organization.
Character of the Transsyberia Rally
The Transsyberia Rally was a long-distance rally in which over 7,000 km were covered over a mostly 14-day period. Individual stages extended up to 900 km. It was not held on briefly cordoned off road sections and dirt roads, but mainly in open terrain (off-road or cross country).
The evaluation resulted from several evaluation or special tests. In the end it was the time factor that counted, but in order to get your 4x4 vehicle safely to its destination, navigation and the correct assessment of the ground conditions in relation to the speed play an outstanding role. Anyone who fell short of the set minimum time received penalties. So the organization wanted to make sure that it was driven with caution. It was rated in different classes. There was also a category for historic vehicles built up to 1988.
The months were July and August to avoid the long Siberian winter. Nevertheless, there could be nights with frost during the 14 days of the rally. But not only the temperatures and the sometimes impassable landscape were among the hardships of the rally. If you reached the camp after a day of up to 16 hours, you might have to spend a few hours on the vehicle to carry out repairs and maintenance.
route
The route of the Transsyberia was scouted and fixed anew every year. While the first rallies started in Poland, in 2007 and 2008 Moscow is the starting point and Ulan Bator , capital of Mongolia and the coldest capital on earth with an annual average of −1 degrees, the destination city. In between there were 14 daily stages with over 7,000 km, the Urals , the Altai Mountains , the steppe of Mongolia and the Gobi desert .
