action

Homer is always annoyed about having to put the garbage can on the street to get emptied. He therefore decides to work as a garbage man himself and to take care of the garbage disposal. After he is then nominated to vote for the refuse collection officer, he is elected. Full of euphoria, he is now trying to improve garbage disposal, but disregarding the annual budget, so that all funds are used up after a month.

When Lisa mentions over dinner that many cities are suffering from garbage problems, Homer disappears without further ado and the next morning presents the garbage collectors who are already waiting in his office for their wages with a suitcase full of cash. Homer shows his family that he has solved the acute budget problem by taking over the disposal of garbage from surrounding communities ( garbage tourism ). He bulldozers the rubbish into the old mine shafts of Springfield.

The mayor invites Homer to play golf to praise him for plugging the budget hole when a small pile of rubbish emerges from the ground. Little by little, garbage is now pouring out of the ground everywhere, and Homer is fired as a refuse disposal officer. Since the city is now uninhabitable, "Plan B" comes into effect without further ado: the whole city is moved five miles, leaving the rubbish behind. The last scene shows two Indians standing in front of a huge garbage dump that extends to the horizon.
