The Traunsee bedstraw ( Galium truniacum ), also called Traunsee gloss bedstraw , is a plant species of the genus bedstraws ( Galium ) in the red family (Rubiaceae).

description

The Traunsee bedstraw grows as a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of between 25 and 40, rarely up to 60 centimeters. In contrast to some similar species, the plant does not form runners . The upright stem is coarse, square and reddish at the base. The leaves are 1 to 2 millimeters wide and 8 to 15 times as long as they are wide , thin, not fleshy with a smooth edge, glossy on the top and, in contrast to other species of the genus, have no spines directed towards the tip of the leaves.

The strongly spreading flower stalks are 2.5 to 7 millimeters long. The pale yellow, rounded petals have an awn tip. The fruit is 1.5 to 1.8 millimeters long.

The flowering period extends from June to August.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22.

Occurrence

The Traunsee bedstraw is only common in the northern limestone Alps from the Berchtesgaden Alps to the Hochschwab area . In Austria it occurs scattered in Lower, Upper Austria and Salzburg. It is extremely rare in Germany.

The Traunsee bedstraw only thrives on limestone and dolomite . Dry, open rubble and rock corridors are preferred as the location. It occurs in societies of the association Thlaspion rotundifolii.

Systematics

It was first described in 1910 by Karl Ronniger in Exsicc. (Herb. Norm.) , 51-52, 22 under the name Galium corrudifolium subsp. truniacum ( Basionym ). Karl Ronniger gave it the rank of a species as Galium truniacum in Schedae ad Floram Exsiccatam Austro-Hungaricum , 10, p. 52 in 1913 .
