Travis Gareth Dodd (born January 6, 1980 in Adelaide ) is an Australian football player . The offensive player has been under contract with the A-League club Perth Glory since 2011 . He was the first Aboriginal footballer to score a goal on the Australian national football team .
Club career
Dodd joined Adelaide City Force in the National Soccer League (NSL) in 1996 from the South Australian Sports Institute , where he made his league debut at the age of 16 years and 281 days. In 1999 he moved to the Newcastle Breakers , which were withdrawn from the NSL game operations in 2000 and replaced by the newly founded club Newcastle United , where Dodd was also staying. The 2003/04 season, the last before the NSL was discontinued, he spent at Parramatta Power .
The offensive player then played for a few months at Johor FC in Malaysia before moving to Greece for Panionios Athens . There he came under coach Karol Pecze to some appearances in the league and in the UEFA Cup , but played no role after his dismissal in December under the new coach Georgios Vazakas . He then returned to Australia in 2005 and signed in the newly formed A-League with Adelaide United .
In the opening season he was with Adelaide champions of the regular season, but then lost in the play-off games against Sydney, the major semifinal and then the preliminary final against the Central Coast Mariners. In May 2007 Dodd succeeded in the AFC Champions League game against Đồng Tâm Long An as the first Australian a hat trick. For the 2008/09 season he took over the captaincy of Michael Valkanis and reached the final with Adelaide in the AFC Champions League 2008 , in which they had no chance against Gamba Osaka (0-3 and 0-2).
By reaching the final in the Champions League, they qualified for participation in the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup . Dodd scored the 2-1 winner in the opening game against Oceania representatives Waitakere United .
National team
Dodd came in 2006 in qualifying for the 2007 Asian Cup to two appearances in the Australian national team . On his debut against Kuwait, he scored the 1-0 opening goal, becoming the first Aboriginal to score a goal for the Australian national team.
