'Trincadeira' is a red wine that is widespread in Portugal .

Origin, descent

The variety comes from Portugal.

According to the ampelograph Cincinnato da Costa , 'Tinta Amarela' is not identical to the ' Castelão Francês ' (also called ' Periquita ').

distribution

It is particularly grown in the Alentejo , Dão and Douro areas . In the grape variety index of Portugal , the grape variety 'Tinta Amarela' ranks third among the red varieties with a vineyard area of 8,463 hectares . The 'Tinta Amarela' variety is recommended in the Portuguese subregions of Trás-os-Montes , Beira Interior Norte , Beira Interior Sul , Cova da Beira , Ribatejo , Oeste and Alentejo. It is also approved in the region around the Douro (for port wine ), in the regions of Minho and Algarve . Small stocks can also be found in South Africa .

Yield

The very low-yielding variety 'Tinta Amarela' is susceptible to raw rot , but has a high resistance to heat and drought. The name “Amarela” (= yellow) is derived from the vine tendrils that turn yellow when the berries are fully ripe .

Wine

Unmixed expanded provides the early variety 'Tinta Amarela' fruity red wines , but which lack the structure. In blending it gives the wine a nice color.
