Drinking brandy for miners
The drinking brandy for miners was a brandy that was given out to miners in the Soviet occupation zone and later in the GDR as deputation wages .
history
A liter of alcoholic beverages could be obtained tax-free for miners at a price of 1.60 marks via entitlement certificates, which were also known as talons in the Soviet-German stock corporation Wismut . It was filled in bottles of 0.5, 0.7 or 1.0 liter each. The brandy with an alcohol content of 32 % by volume was mostly produced in distilleries that were close to mining operations, such as in Nordhausen , Senftenberg , Lübben or Lauter . Every miner working underground was entitled to two liters of the brandy per month, and one liter of the brandy working underground. In the event of compliance with or over-compliance with the standard, the amount entitled to purchase increased.
In the SAG Wismut , from 1947, day workers were entitled to one liter and underground workers two liters per month. Later, the miners of the SDAG Wismut received up to six liters per month by driving or mining.
Miners who worked for days in the lignite opencast mines received two liters per month in winter and one liter of “Kumpeltod” per month in summer.
The drinking brandy was also available, for example, for workers and employees of the VEB Erdöl-Erdgas Grimmen or for ship crews of the GDR merchant navy .
The resale of the brandy or the certificates of entitlement was prohibited and any violation of this prohibition was prosecuted.
