Trio de Barcelona (1981)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Trio de Barcelona was a piano trio from Barcelona founded in 1981 by the pianist Albert Atenelle and the two Andorran brothers Gerard (violin) and Lluís Claret (cello). In the 1980s and 1990s, the quartet shaped the chamber music scene in Barcelona. The trio's repertoire included works by Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms, but also works by Messiaen and contemporary composers. It made numerous recordings on the Harmonia Mundi label . The trio performed together regularly until 1993.

On November 22nd, 2018, the ensemble returned to a concert in the Palau de la Música Catalana for the 50th stage anniversary of the two Claret brothers . The trio interpreted the Piano Trio No. 7 in B flat major, Op. 97 by Ludwig van Beethoven and the Piano Trio No. 1, D minor, Op. 49 by Felix Mendelssohn .

This piano trio should not be confused with the Trio de Barcelona of the same name, founded in Barcelona in 1911 , which consisted of the pianist Ricard Vives , the violinist Marià Perelló and the cellist Joaquim Pere Marès .
