Rock sedum ( Sedum rupestre )

The Rock stonecrop ( Sedum rupestre L. , syn .: Petrosedum reflexum (L.) Grulich , Sedum reflexum L. ), also trip Madam called or Rock Stonecrop, belongs to the kind of sedum ( Sedum ). The rock sedum plant is grown in gardens, sometimes on graves.

Locations

The rock sedum plant is found quite often in light pioneering societies, on dunes and rock heads, in gaps in rocky lawns, on the tops of walls, on dams, in fine debris heaps or rocky oak forests.

According to Ellenberg , it is a half-light plant, a moderate heat pointer, with a sub-oceanic distribution area, a moderate acid pointer, indicating locations with the lowest nitrogen levels and an order character of warmth-loving sand grass (Festuco-Sedetalia). But it also occurs in companies of the Quercion roboris association. In the Allgäu Alps, it rises up to 1200 meters above sea level.

Appearance

The rock sedum plant is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of growth of 10–20 cm. The sterile stems have more or less conical ends. The leaves of the sterile stems are not conspicuously heaped in rosettes at the ends and are over 1.5 mm thick.

In the branchy, initially nodding, umbelliferous inflorescence, there are up to 50 flowers. Its inflorescence is interspersed with scale-shaped bracts down to the last branches . The hermaphrodite, radially symmetrical , six-fold flowers have a diameter of about 12 mm. Their golden yellow petals are 6 to 7 mm long and thus two to three times as long as the 3 to 4 mm long sepals . The upright follicles turn yellow when ripe.

ecology

The rock sedum plant is an herbaceous chamaephyte . The pollination is effected by insects ( Diptera , Hymenoptera ). The seeds are often washed out of the follicles by water (raindrops). Sometimes parts of the shoot break off and take root elsewhere. It is a forage plant for the red apollo ( Parnassius apollo ) and for the moth Acronicta euphorbiae .

Systematics

H. 't Hart, JM Sandbrink, I. Csikos, A. van Ooyen and J. van Brederode examined the polyploid character of Sedum rupestre in 1992 and found some subspecies:

  • Sedum rupestre subsp. rupestre : The chromosome number is 2n = 112
  • Sedum rupestre subsp. erectum t'Hart : The number of chromosomes is 2n = 64
  • Dainty stonecrop ( Sedum rupestre subsp. Forsterianum (Sm.) RL Evans ; Syn .: Sedum forsterianum Sm. ): The number of chromosomes is 2n = 48.

use

Tripmadam plays a role as a sour-tasting herb for soups or salads and is sometimes offered for this purpose in garden stores and supermarkets. In these cases she is also referred to as the “Green Tripmadam”.
