Triumph is a Canadian rock band from Toronto , which was successful from the late 1970s until the 1980s. The group is sometimes compared to the more successful Rush , not only because they came from the same country and also consisted of three members, but also in terms of music and lyrics.
biography
Triumph was founded in 1975 in Toronto, Ontario . A year later, Emmet, Levine and Moore were able to release the self-titled debut album . The successor Rock & Roll Machine followed in 1977 . Both albums were initially only released in Canada. They slowly became known in the United States through radio stations in Texas . A tour of Texas provided further promotion.
In 1978 a compilation for the American market was released under the title Rock 'n' Machine . RCA Records had taken on the group. In 1979 the group had their commercial breakthrough with Just a Game . The single Hold On was able to place on the Billboard charts.
With the album Progressions of Power , the band was also in England place on the charts. Allied Forces became the band's biggest hit in 1981. The highest position in the Billboard charts was number 23. The follow-up work Never Surrender (1983) also sold quite well.
In 1984 Triumph left RCA Records and signed with MCA . Thunder Seven was produced by Eddie Kramer and sold very well. In 1985 the group released their first live album, Stages .
In 1986 the album The Sport of Kings followed , a single came to number 27 on the Billboard charts. The video for Just One Night reached the top 10 on the MTV charts.
1987 played guitar legend Steve Morse as a guest on the album Surveillance .
In 1988, Emmett left the band to start a solo career. The best-of album Classics was released that same year.
The band was on hold for four years until a new singer and guitarist was found in Phil Xenidis (Phil X). The first release was the song Troublemaker for the soundtrack to Hellraiser III . The album Edge of Excess followed in the same year. In 1993 Phil X left the band, the remaining members put the band on hold. In 1998, on the occasion of the band's 20th anniversary, Emmett was supposed to return, but this plan was abandoned for financial and personal reasons.
At the moment the band is still inactive, but releases DVDs, samplers and live albums. In 2008 the band was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame . The classic line-up, consisting of Moore, Levine and Emmett, came back together for two concerts in the same year.
